"Old" not meaning age, but meaning unfamiliar - the forgotten - a legacy of a time that is no longer. It's not the old oak tree, it's the thicket of thorns that takes up space and contributes nothing.
Objects can be a reminder of who you are, who you were, or who you aspired to be. They *can be*. But only if given attention.
