so, i've been nosing around #nostr for the past couple of days, and honestly, nothing about it really call my name. i went as far as to create a lightning wallet (serious "iugh" here). i'm seriously disappointed with the whole thing because it seems like it's just a circlejerk of #cryptobros all completely obsessed with #bitcoin and nothing else, all around.
and you know what bugs me the most? it's all about money. there's no real substance. money, money, btc, transactions, bad-bank, money again, etc.
it's like they're more of a cult than a community, totally closed off to newcomers (you might as well not exist if you're new). and just like bluesky and x, it's all about these celebrity-like accounts, just circling around each other, shutting out the rest of us.
everything just feels so phony and false: the woke posts from nostr-client developers (looks like everyone is "building tools" for it), the so-called tech gurus, even jack himself; not to mention all the users pushing web-3 crap. just crypto, money, "i am rich because of btc" and more boring stuff.
anyway, i've kept my npub just for laughs, and because i think there's a chance it could be taken over by some genuinely interesting people and i can't wait for it to happen and try again.
hey there, folks! :hello_joe:
so, even though i've technically been around the block in the #fediverse before, i'm feeling the urge to hit the reset button and start fresh with a new #introduction post. happens every time, you know?
name's miguel, and i'm all about computers in a very hobbyist way. used to be scattered across every major ad-driven, surveillance-capitalism platform out there. but over the past decade, i've been on this journey of privacy awakening and standing up for our rights. so, here i am, making the leap to this modern and #decentralized space.
i dabbled in mastodon about a year back, but it didn't quite click for me then. now though, i'm really feeling the vibe, and i'm excited to connect with some cool peeps here. seriously, folks in the fediverse are just plain awesome.
started off on mastodon.social , but those limits and the whole authority vibe didn't sit right with me. so, i said adios to the 500-character cap and the general scene there, and i landed here (after messing up my first username, oops). it's a more welcoming, modern, and open-minded spot for my toots. plus, i scored the raddest username ever—just my plain ol' name. how cool is that?
for a hot sec, i toyed with the idea of running my own solo instance. but let's be real, that's a ton of work, and the thought of all that loneliness? :mastodon_oops: nah, not for me.
as for what gets me going, you'll find me chatting about #technology, #philosophy, #anarchism, #cybersecurity, #privacy, #digitalrights, #opensource, #linux :manjaro: , and #decentralization.
hit me up if any of that floats your boat!
#introduction #hello
