Hey Americans, imagine if #slavery had been outlawed 700 years ago and slaves were never phenotypically distinct from free people, so you ended up with a population where nobody knew how much slave ancestry they had. That's Sweden.

People born in the mid-to-late 80s must be exceptionally weak in their basic constitution. Despite being 15 years younger than me they are already starting to look middle aged. Is this down to pollutants in the drinking water?
@ad951bfd Part of the explanation is probably that the Vikings were moving coinage from areas with a really well developed market economy to their home where there was little that money could buy and definitely no rulers who could decree older coin types invalid. Both factors favoured hoarding. You could buy a farm or pay a bride price with kilos of silver, but there were no shops where you could spend small sums.
In fertile Glanshammar we've discovered something I like to call the Dirham Background Radiation. It refers to the fact that if you send 35 metal detectorists into a large South Scandinavian field and have them do about 7 person hours per 2500 sqm, you always find an Islamic silver coin of the later 1st millennium AD. Even if you find nothing else. 1/2

The Chinese Twitter equivalent #Weibo censors searches for the names of places where there are protests. You could write a script that searches for the main Chinese cities on Weibo and plots the ones that are censored on a map. Presto, a dynamic map of Chinese unrest!
