Sent my message using the Contact form on the selfhosted.show site. I believe the message was too long for Fountain to send successfully as a boost.

Wanted to share my recent ‘discovery’ involving Nextcloud and note-taking. I’ve been trying all the various fancy notes apps - Joplin, Obsidian, Trillium, etc. They all have heavy downsides that caused me to give up on them, leaving notes scattered everywhere. I always find myself going back to a simple text editor. That’s when I settled on Nextcloud Notes. It supports markdown (among other formats). I can edit directly in the NC web interface, in a simple text editor via WebDAV, or in the Nextcloud Notes iOS app. Updates to a note are nearly instant via another interface. I prefer the simplicity of pure markdown. I have no desire to pay for a sync service when I already have it from Nextcloud. I don’t want to have to run another app to sync to the backend. I use the KDE Nextcloud integration and mark my Notes directory as a sidebar place in Dolphin. Of course, I can edit from anywhere I can establish WebDAV connectivity. It just works and I’m all in. Some think Nextcloud is overkill, but I really enjoy having it as a platform to support workflows like this. Oh, and I use the LinuxServer.io docker image.

Sats budget is tight. Repurposing some sats for a Self-Hosted boost re:Nextcloud. But, I couldn’t just NOT boost into LUP. Happy Tuesday, as in Sunday!

App pick: Dnote (getdnote.com)
Simple text note editor for the terminal. It’s not for everyone, but can be great for a CLI-only setup or a resource-strapped machine. It also has a backend server feature for centralized self-hosting.

Framework 13 follow-up: Brent’s got me beat on # of tabs. My Firefox instance currently has 38 open tabs, some of which are 5+ years old. Though, I also have plenty of electron apps running (Element, VSCodium, etc.). Perhaps frequent restarts help. I am addicted to those Fedora updates.

Very happy Framework 13 owner here. I have it ‘docked’ most of the time, but it’s driving 2 32” curved USB-C displays and it’s own screen. The only time I notice any fan noise is when watching YouTube videos for an extended period. I love the hot-swapping ports and the repairability, though I haven’t had to repair anything because it’s been incredibly reliable. It probably helps that I use external keyboard and mouse most of the time. Currently running Plasma 6.2 on Fedora 40. YMMV, but I am very happy with this purchase.

What hurricane? Thanks, Mike, for sacrificing your prep time for us listeners. We don’t deserve you!

+1 for the newbie video. Would love to see it too!
My spending sats are held like this: streaming sats go to Alby (because I listen in Castamatic); boosting sats are in Fountain.
Still working on my holding workflow. For now, I’m just stacking them in Cash.app and Strike.

Nevermind. Found the answer to my question. The key is the ‘spread’ that an exchange uses. Paying 2 fees with Strike or Cash could end up being cheaper than 1 fee from an exchange that doesn’t force me to use their custodial wallet.

Just got my hardware wallet. Is there a way to purchase bitcoin/sats directly to the device. If I purchase with Strike/Cash/etc., then transfer to the hardware wallet address, won’t I pay 2 transfer fees? If there’s a way to avoid one of those fees, I’d love to know.

Whatever happened to using IPFS for your distributed storage needs?
Oh, and don’t forget to talk about your switch away from the AppleTV.

Why did the immutable operating system go to therapy?
Because it was feeling a little "unchangeable" and needed to work through some "persistent" issues! But in the end, it just had to "commit" to being itself and "roll back" its anxiety!
