Amazon is ditching their fully automated checkout system because of the high cost of human labor.

This reminds me of a former employer who sold a fully automated solution that also used a lot people behind the scenes.

So much of the stuff sold as AI is either snake oil, or at best "fake it till you make it".

My heart goes out to all the people in #TelAviv who are the victim of terrorist rockets.

May you be safe.

#Israel
It's an absolute tragedy that during Israel's formation, some 600,000 people who lived in the same land were displaced.[1]

What's less talked about is that beyond the region of Israel, across the MENA, ~900,000 Jews across the region were forcibly expelled- citizenship stripped, property ceased, etc. in sixteen countries.

One tragedy does not balance out another, yet I rarely hear people talking about the expulsion of MENA Jews. Few Western non-Jews have heard about it, and anti-Sephardi bigotry means that few Ashkenazi Jews even discuss it.

[1] There's a lot of complexity around this series of events. I'm simplifying.
I'm not even sure what to call this- a dream or not, because it's happened throughout my covid experience, and it's very vivid.

When I've been sleeping, I believe I'm an entity floating amongst other entities- energy clusters, or something.

I had the vague notion that other beings like me exist, cells, or something, and that there are "trailer parks" of us. I also had the vague notion that I've tried to flow gently between places but not been able because while I don't remember my name or anything about me, I know I'm Jewish.

In the meantime, when I do wake up, I realize I'm having jolts of electricity all over my body, like zaps of pain, especially in my toes.
This is a gentle reminder that it's okay not to have a good new year.

Yes, we eat food symbolizing a good new year, but having a good new year evening or day doesn't speak to the quality of the year itself. You can have a lovely year that starts off badly. It's okay. You're okay.
