@0f342e77@5c5af261 I feel sure that Gerrard Winstanley and his Diggers thought the same in 1649 when troops attacked his settlement on common land. "Land doesn't belong to one person and not another," he imagined. "Wrong!" said the government.
Or maybe go back 2000 years when a strange cult arose that believed a crucified Jew was a god. The Romans of the day thought such people bonkers - and sent them into the coliseum to be ripped apart by animals for sport.
Or go back to 5000 BC when people, who up until then had been foragers and nomads in the main, turned into farmers and pursuers of agriculture who started hoarding things and creating surpluses. What madness is this?
Human history is replete with incomprehensible and consequential ideas.
The question is: do we love freedom or power?
Because you can't have both.
@0f342e77@5c5af261 Its a mistake to talk in the language of psychosis and curse. Its neither. Its the simple and predictable operation of power in politics, media and economy. People have been taught to love their prisons and to think of social freedom as tyranny whilst they are directed to hate each other as a further distraction. Its an old tactic but it works every time.
@5c5af261@0f342e77 Nige is not interested in being Sideshow Bob. The only way he;d ever rejoin is if he got a safe seat that gets him into parliament. Because I'm absolutely certainly he'd only join so he could be leader. I suspect he;s playing his cards close to his chest on this one hoping things fall his way.
As to Sunak, he is totally weak. He is there, and knows it, at the behest of the MPs. And they will turn on you before you know it if they want to. Its why he has to tolerate Braverman and why he is nothing but a puppet on a string saying nasty things to appease the worst of them.
@f7beeee8 Well have no fear. Its absolutely her own description. She calls them saggy all the time and loves that word for them. I'd not be mean like that.
FIVE SEX PANICS
In the 19th century there was a panic about masturbation and its effect on the nation on both sides of the Atlantic.
At the beginning of the 20th century there was a panic about women's liberation, in sex and politics, destroying society.
By the mid 20th century there was a panic about sexual liberation and free love.
Later, in the 70s and 80s, there was a gay panic and gays were presented as predators and deviants.
Now, in the early 21st century, there is a trans panic and its trans and non-binary people who are seen as the social threat.
These are five separate panics across over 150 years, But, actually, they're not separate at all: they are the same panic generated by the same people that comes again and again and again in waves. Its a panic generated by the sexually puritan and socially authoritarian whose politics is that of coercion and control.
This tendency is the ultimate enemy of all lovers of social and personal freedom.

You misunderstand "evolution" if you think of it as a (deliberate) linear process from "worse" to "better".
"Evolution", when applied biologically, is a theory of how organisms change over time by adapting to changing environments and circumstances. There is no "better" or "worse" about this except as said organism is fitted to its environment.
And it certainly has nothing to do with either "purpose" or "morality".
This toot was going to be something else but then I realised what I was writing sounded shit and so I deleted it.
I was only trying to make anyone who read it feel better. Because I think thats important in a world where so many try to make others feel bad.
