I used to be a Bernie bro in ‘16 for that reason. Recognized the problem, and at that time I fell for his solutions. Have longed since moved away from them. I bring this up, as I’ve found surprisingly many BTC’ers have had the same story.
This a tricky setup. With mints, you want to (really have to) trust the guardians…but that also creates a pressure point for the powers at be.
Anon guardians would be a tough sell from a user stand point. Maybe web of trust can help alleviate that?
GM dear ones!
One of the things that really resonated with me from Berlin was a moment I had at lunch prior to the conference with a bunch of devs.
Where one stated, “Even if the world goes to s*%+, I want my kids to know I tried”
Hit me like a ton of bricks.
GM dear ones!
I’d like to give a big shoutout to @niftynei for putting on a wonderful @btcplusplus conference.
Absolutely, the most high signal bitcoin conference I’ve ever attended.
I’m excited to see what comes out of a room full of productive people thinking about ecash.
I’ll add, don’t sleep on the @Fedi team. The minds they have assembled are brilliant. The amount of thought they’ve put in to make that ecosystem robust is breathtaking.
That said, the wallet support is light currently. If your a TypeScript dev and want to plug into that ecosystem without having to learn Rust check out their recently announced WebSDK:

Danke
Check this out, basement revolutionaries in East Berlin. They got arrested in 1987, two years later the wall fell.
Keep posting notes and running relays. It matters!

This is why I’m so excited to about ecash.
Yes, the trust trade off is huge and should not be understated. However, it does help with the shortcomings of LN.
