I haven't read anything recently which featured an ungendered character. But if I remember correctly, Bone Dance by Emma Bull had a non-gendered MC. It's been a while since that book was published, before the commonality of NB pronouns, and it was written in first person. I remember it did sometimes get verbally awkward as the author skirted around the lack of apparent gender (which I think was a plot point, it's been a few years) but it might be a useful comp for you.
#WordWeavers 10.5 — Discussing your writing with your friends and family?

My husband reads my stuff, and is my biggest supporter. My sister is also a writer, and a trusted beta reader. My mother has written and published romance and cozy mysteries, and my grandmother (who has passed) wrote gothic novels.

Do we discuss? We rarely talk about anything else.

I also belong to a critique group, and am training to be a book coach. I am immersed in stories!
My name is Audrey Lake, P. I.

I keep seeing visions of a woman forcibly drowned. I’m sure it’s my PTSD. But then the cops find her body in the river.

Now I’m digging into the dead woman’s past, and tearing the protective covering from my own. As I get closer to the truth, I have to ask: is a brutal killer on the loose, or am I losing my mind for good?
