 Diaspora body urges US govt to work towards addressing the spike in deaths of Indian-origin student
==========

The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) has called upon multiple agencies within the US government, universities, and student associations to collaborate in addressing the recent surge in deaths of Indian-origin students in the United States. FIIDS analyzed several recent incidents and identified various causes, including suspicious shootings, environmental dangers like carbon monoxide poisoning, mental health issues leading to suicides, and accidents. This year, eleven Indian students have died in the US, including Mohammad Abdul Arfath, Uma Satya Sai Gadde, and Amarnath Ghosh. FIIDS has submitted recommendations to relevant authorities and plans to conduct a survey to gauge Indian-American students' concerns about safety. While rumors of hate crimes have circulated, FIIDS emphasized the need for thorough investigation before drawing conclusions. Indian-origin students contribute significantly to the US economy, but the recent increase in deaths could undermine confidence in the safety of US universities and potentially affect enrollment numbers.
