It's been in gmail for a few years I think. Microsoft added it to outlook as well.

 I hate this as much as iPhone users with their phone set in a foreign langage that link an SMS message you sent from a non-iPhone device. You get this awkward SMS in their phone langage with your message repeated in "" at the end. 

 Yes, this is a thing now. Like sending voicemail by text.
