Are political discussions worth having? Especially about elections? Has anyone ever changed your mind?
No, it’s really not worth it!
Why do I keep engaging 😮‍💨 do we just like hearing ourselves talk?
I didn’t quite understand your question... I’m sorry! Can you help me?!
I meant why does everyone still argue their political stances? Or argue over who they will vote for?

Am I going to spend the next 5 months talking about Trump and Biden? 🤮
Thank you for being kind to me about that. So Mandana, people (some), like to feel entertained or to confirm self-approval of others, through pack political bias.

This is my perception of people here in Brazil, I may not be assertive before all groups in the world.
Entertained! Yes! People in America root for political parties like sports teams.
Luckily there are 24-hour news channels with exciting soundtracks that have play-by-play updates on the game!
Messing with the emotional is what makes the sale happen! And the soundtrack is the responsible thrust, no doubt...
It’s like watching AND listening to the slowest football game ever

Aaaaaaaand Candidate 1 is gonna take the campaign downfield, that might really cost him a couple of yards penalty though…

….. you’re right, because it looks like Candidate 2 has a strong defense strategy lined up downfield and it looks like he might be able to secure control of the this election with a couple of well-planned moves!

*pulse-pounding techno music blares in the background*
 😅😅😅😅😅
😅 And there are all these confusing rules that somehow make it seem like an obvious loser has a fighting chance to keep the game going.
I don't think so. Most people now have pseudo-romatic relationships with their beliefs. You're not going to change people's minds. Some based people will listen and contemplate your thoughts and opinions, but it's few and far between.
That’s a good point. It becomes tired to identity. But we do orange pill people 🤔 not as many as we logically should
 Beliefs are the key word.

People rarely wish to change their beliefs (or even to look at them with a jaundiced eye). Beliefs are almost always emotional (rather than logical) and cannot be changed by reason.

Politics shouldn't be about beliefs, but for most people they are.

Therin lies the rub.
 Facts.
💡& what makes people more emotional than an assassination attempt
your statement about politics is already a believe in itself. your political goal would be establishing a technocracy, which you believe is the right political system.

the problem is people taking their own beliefs for facts.
No--think you may have missed the point--I'm willing to listen, and (if supported by evidence) change my outlook...

i.e. I'm not emotionally invested (I'm data driven)

"Show me the data" and I'm happy to change 😃
totally get your point, i'm data driven too. and you know who else? the communist party of china. plenty of evidence supporting the success of their centrally planned economy. yet, i guess, you wouldn't agree with most their politics, would you? because after all, you too have values and beliefs (like personal freedom) which you prioritize over pure data.
I would distinguish between values and beliefs here though 😃

Freedom I'd view as a "value" (rather than a belief...

exactly what I'm talking about. you might believe freedom is a universal value, while in reality it means very different things for different people, depending on context.
I'm disillusioned by it all because of what people try to pass off as politics nowadays. its sucks because i feel like when we don't have political discussions we give power to the careerists who live totally different lives than us to be political for us and make things worse. i dont think politics is all about elections though. we should be talking about how we build people power at the local level with our neighbors.
Yes I agree that politics isn’t all about elections but we’re in that season. And it sucks to see how differently people around me think.
They are worth having, maybe not to change other people's minds though, but your own.

Honest people will sometimes may have heated up conversations (that we could call discussions) with the goal of sharpening their own thoughts in persue of the truth over a given topic.

"Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don't." is one of Jordan Peterson's 12 rules for life, and I think he's a good example of a person who tries to have productive discussions (honest conversations) with people.

This is a great perspective. I will admit it isn’t one I hold when engaging in political discussions.
They are not worth having. Your single vote will not change the outcome of the election. Whether you vote or not does not magically make taxation not theft. Voting does not stop corruption. Voting does not change your status as a slave simply because you get to choose a new slave master every 4 years.
High level yeah but those small changes politicians make that impact my life can be very irritating
Of course but running around arguing with people about it isn’t going to make a difference either. Your time will be put to better use finding a way to avoid those things hurting you
 💯
Discussions about the US Presidential election aren't worth having, unless at least one participant is a member of the Electoral College.
