Politicians seem so stupid about so many things because they are. This isn't a criticism. There are many things I know little to nothing about.

The problem is that politicians have inserted themselves into virtually every area of our lives. That's why they need to have an opinion on everything and end up looking stupid as a result.

We need politicians who just say they have no opinion on a given topic and no interest in inserting government there.

Government should protect property rights and nothing else. It doesn't take an insanely smart person to do such a task.
