I will be interviewing one of the cofounders of Get Alby tomorrow, what do you want me to ask them?
Ask them if they'll be providing wallet and NWC data, IPs, etc. to the feds in exchange for not getting shut down.
What about some basics, like why should one trust a browser extension? And/or Is it more secure than a password manager or just more convenient?
I couldn't make an Alby account without an invite, so I just plunked my keys into my password manager... it worked fine.
You also plucked your private key (nsec) into whatever client/app you used to post this. Now they have it.... and the next app/client... and the next... Many of the apps/clients are new, experimental and buggy. They could get hacked or sell or leak your private key/nsec... the password to your identity in the nostr world. This is what Alby or another 'key signer' does. They provide proof that you own your public identity without handing over your private key. Seems trivial at first, but it's important.
why no mobile apps.
Why the invite BS? Just went there to sign up and nooooo.
I'm pretty sure he explained it in the latest episode. the short answer is that they were getting spammed with join requests. Jack also mentioned how to get an invite. you should check out the episode.
Thanks. Need to just get off my ass and set up a hot wallet. Been meaning to for at least a year or two but it’s been a pretty low priority.
Muun was wildly easy to set up. No invite needed. Took me less than a minute. Didn’t expect it to be that easy!
It isn't BS it is to not over grow their ability to scale and if you want an invite I give them out to anyone who emails me and FWIW it isn't an affiliate thing or anything I literally get ZERO from it other than some good will.
I totally understand the not scaling too fast. No problem there. Coming from you I wouldn’t even care if it was an affiliate thing.
I started using Nostr and Alby quite some time ago. Then I had to reformat my computer. I am using Ubuntu OS and the Brave browser. Now when I log on to Iris.io it brings up a separate Alby window that says: “Set a passcode to unlock Alby Extension in this browser”. I don’t understand what that is. I do not remember seeing that prompt previously. Please clarify what I am supposed to do. Pretend that I am your grandmother in your explanation please.
This is a customer service question.
explain the recent transition to self custody wallets and how this impacts user especially related to maintaining liquidity and costs to the user? can the new albyhub app run in a headless way or at least from the toolbar on a Windows machine? is albyhub supported on Start9?
