‘It’s doctors’ duty to protect public’s health rights’

The local branch of the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) in Chandigarh celebrated World Health Day on the theme 'My Health My Right'. The event was inaugurated by PGIMER director Prof Vivek Lal, who emphasized the duty of healthcare professionals to ensure and protect the health rights of the public. IPHA's local branch vice-president Prof J S Thakur highlighted the efforts of the government towards achieving the goal of right to health by introducing universal health coverage. A panel discussion was held, covering topics such as health and human rights, the role of a tertiary care center, the role of nurses in regard to the right to health, and the implications of the right to health on clinical practice. The event was attended by 150 participants from different departments of PGI. In addition, Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Institute of Health in collaboration with Panjab University organized a 'walk and run' event on the PU campus, with 100 participants. Dr. Rupinder Kaur, CMO of Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Institute of Health, spoke about the benefits of rising early in the morning.
