I do not think that the last night was required for that. Just look how he walks. It is obvious that this man is mentally not suited for any important position. I wouldn't trust him being alone in the kitchen. There are knifes, and who knows what he would do to himself. 

Just trying to tell that he is not only old, but he is in a state where he needs a babysitter
