Oddbean new post about login | logout Nostr data size grows way too much on Relays! My Super relay was on for 15 hours and is using 1.2G of disk space. Most of these are SPAM/Bot posts. This is not good

Delete all relay data and start over
i do that every night. My Super Relay, powered by Bostr + Strfry, is at wss://relay.poster.place, caches everything and aggregates to all the relays for you so you can save battery and mobile data. It's the only relay you need in your clients. So nice! That relays also sends to my Ditto server where all the junk is filtered out and removed so my global Feed is spam/mostly porn free https://poster.place
What do the spammers post?
Child Porn the word Ping over and over Then you have the bots that post news articles every few seconds, porn, etc
Most data must be from Blossom? Nostr events are text, so should be small
Nobody uses blossom yet. The Child Porn spam was a bot that shared image links from their Matrix server for a few days.

Yeah. If you use ditto as a relay like me, i removed 90% or more of the spam and porn and non-english posts wss://poster.place/relay
Hmm as a non tech person with too much work on, I feel am glad I didn’t try crossing this bridge. I guess there’s a learning curve on management. Do you actually have to monitor everything?
Slightly. I spent way too many hours viewing global timeline to make it nice for poster.place . I have over 500 blocked accounts and muted many hashtags and words that the bots/spammers/ non english speakers use. Admins need to protect their instances from ddos and spam otherwise you waste too much disk and bandwith on nonsenae
