 This will blow your mind but if you get far enough away from the city, not only will you see shooting stars at least once an hour but you’ll see the Milky Way. 
First time I camped at Lake Powell, this was amazing to me.

 glad you saw one. being out in rural or other areas without light pollution makes them easier to see on a clear night
