China-born π scientist π Chen π Zhijian wins βAmericaβs Nobelβ for medical research π ========== Chen Zhijian, a China-born scientist, π€ wins the 2024 Albert Lasker π Award for basic medical π― π research for his discovery of the enzyme cGAS, π π which plays a crucial π role π in the immune π response to pathogens. π He π is the π sixth scientist of Chinese origin to receive this award and the π second in π₯ the basic research category since 1962. π― Chen, 58, π was born in Fujian province, graduated π from Fujian π Normal University π in 1985, and earned π a PhD π π from the State π University of New York at π Buffalo in 1991.
