 State pension: DWP code shows when you will be paid as payments rise by 8.5% in April
==========

The state pension in the UK will increase by 8.5% in April, with the 'new' state pension rising from £203.85 per week to £221.20 weekly (£11,502.40 per year) and the 'old' state pension increasing from £156.20 per week to £169.50 per week (£8,814 per year). The exact date of receiving the state pension can be determined by the last two digits of the individual's National Insurance number, with payments made on different days of the week based on the range of the digits. The state pension is usually paid every four weeks, but it may take until May for individuals to see the pay rise. Retirees living abroad can be paid every four or 13 weeks, and the amount received may change due to exchange rates. The government is legally required to increase the state pension annually, and the 'triple lock' commitment ensures that state pensions are increased by the highest average earnings growth, Consumer Price Index (CPI), or 2.5%. In 2023-24, pensioners received a 10.1% pay rise as the triple lock followed CPI inflation. The full new state pension will rise to £10,600.20 in 2023-24 for those who reached state pension age after April 2016 with 35 qualifying years of National Insurance contributions.
