#AUstrich what do you think? The #Australian Government just announced they’re going to ban children from social media, and their Digital ID system is being rolled out after the Digital ID Act passed the Australian Parliament earlier this year. Government overreach and control through #surveillance mirrors the oppressive tactics used by authoritarian regimes, like the Soviet Union, to stifle dissent and monitor citizens. The concern is that increasing surveillance, justified under the guise of protecting children or enforcing #security, can lead to significant curtailments of individual #freedom and #anonymity, echoing the power structures of past regimes that sought control over all aspects of life. The #Gulags serve as a historical reminder of the dangers of unchecked state power, and the implementation of Digital ID and online surveillance could be seen as a modern-day parallel, where the state and corporations could potentially misuse data and remove #privacy in a similar bid for control. While the situation is not identical, the fear is that excessive #surveillance can pave the way for similar abuses, albeit in a digital context. I think mainstream social media can wreck your brain real bad. If I had kids I wouldn't give them anything but a dumbphone until they're 16. But I also think that this move by the Aust government has NOTHING to do with children. It's all about universal KYC, social engineering, and locking up any opposition to the two parties which are practically identical. It pains me to say, but our democracy is a complete fraud. If the world survives the next 10 years without nuclear war we'll get to see how bad despotism can really get.
