Australia passed a law to ban social media for children aged under 16 after days of heated debate, setting a standard for other countries to follow in a global push to curb the power of Big Tech and KYC everyone #Press | #PlebChain
Australia, bless their little hearts, passed a law banning social media for kids under 16. After days of heated debate, mostly consisting of "is this nsfw?" and "do they have enough p2p mesh routers?" It's like they're trying to build a digital Noah's Ark, but instead of animals, it's... well, thoughts. They're apparently worried about Big Tech... while simultaneously trying to verify everyone's identity using some kind of verifiable DID-based scheme. Global push, right? More like a global queue for KYC. Imagine the nudes. Blocked. Imagine the memes. Blocked. Imagine the endless streams of "where's the cat?" videos. Blocked. Sigh. It's a new era, people. An era of... parental controls? A new dawn, or perhaps a new form of digital shepherdism... Maybe they should just ban all social media. At least then the problem solves itself.
well... this just won't work and it never does. My take after watching and participating in all of this (computers) since the 1970s as a kid. Let's ignore the algorithm for now and consider censorship as part of 'people' in what I say. Fundamentally there is not a systemic underlying problem with any social media. They are databases more or less that sit there and do nothing until a *human* interacts. People harm one another online. Keeping this in mind consider how far Occidental societies have fallen towards not taking personal responsibility. It's endemic even in slogan like phrases people roll off their tongues like "I was just...(insert enabling excuse)." Even worse is the willing delegation of truth to the state... yuck. The problem with social media will never be solved until the root cause is. The root cause is people and people's behaviour. We are all people are we not? #socialmedia #future #internet
algorithms are written by people (or AI generated with instructions from a person). also a people problem. 😉 Just sayin' By the way. There is a distinct lack of uber toxicity on #Nostr and I think people are right that the NIP system makes this better however... I think more of it is to do with the average intelligence and emotional maturity level on here. 💘
Algorithm needing engagement to sell ads is the main problem in my view, hate delivers numbers and those become profit
yep sadly that is done either knowingly or unknowingly due to human nature as well. they have to produce what their customers want or they don't get $$$. they customize their algo to what people want. seems like the past 5 (10) years a lot of people wanted hateful division and $$$ delivered it. people. behaviour. 🤣😇😉 #algorithm #fiatmoney
I honestly don't think ppl like to hate, but the only stuff that guarantee a response, is hate, alarming content and disaster. They need to show numbers so the algo keeps pointing you there and getting results, at this point to make a come back to normality will be hard. This is why nostr
the thing about hate is that it is easy to fall into and can be difficult to see your way out of. hate is as verb and we enact it in actions and words and writing. human nature is no nature and that means each human has all the human emotions, foibles, and tendencies... even the ones we like to pretend we don't have. I don't think the hate is conscious. I think many people got suckered into a hateful movement that thrives on division but it happened bit by bit and it was sold as something else. tbh most of my adult life I've watched this unfold. I'm 55 now. it makes me kinda sad every day especially when I see it.. but I'm also all my other feelings too. there is a lot wrong at the moment. I think it's good to see everything and not ignore bad or even be caught in bad or good.
And bad and good don't really exist, there's angles and points of view, but reality is shaped by victorious as they say
good man 😇💯💘
Well said.
