also, how about having the size of the wot being configurable ? like, 
1 level- only me and direct friends.
2 levels- friends of friends.
3 levels- friends of friends of friends…
etc.

I guess it might explode exponentially and anything bigger than 3 became intractable. but I’d like to see it working anyway.
