Today marks 1 year since the October 7th attack, when Hamas infiltrated Israel, killing more than 1,300 civilians, raping women and taking 250 hostages, of which there are still 100 alive in tunnels underground Gaza today.

I wrote this piece within a week of the barbaric attack, and it still rings true on my take on the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Since October 7th, Israel has pummelled Hamas’ infrastructure in Gaza, leaving 2 million in a desperate plight. Unfortunately Hamas leaders in Gaza continue to use human shields and despite efforts to minimise collateral damage, thousands of innocent Palestinians have died in the past year too.

A new front has opened up against Hezbollah in Lebanon to the north. The Houthis in Yemen send rockets too. While the big boy and funder of these efforts to eradicate the Jewish state by Iran now includes the sending of hundreds of ballistic missiles, sending 10 million people to the bomb shelters.

This is personal for me, as I have family and friends throughout Israel and have lived and studied there. My twin sister moved to Tel Aviv this summer and is officially making Aliyah this week, becoming a citizen.

I pray for peace in the region and hope that we can live in a world free from war. Peace has to start with recognising the legitimacy of the Jewish state of Israel in our modern nation state paradigm.

I welcome discussion on this difficult subject. I have been discouraged when I’ve seen other bitcoiners taking deeply antisemitic stances.

I believe #bitcoin can be a beacon of light for everyone on all sides of the conflict, to exit the fiat war regime and stop funnelling resources for terrorism, tunnels, rockets and war infrastructure. May we separate money from state and empower individuals to be sovereign and protect themselves and their loved ones from terrorism.
