I've always recommended individuals have a separate number, preferably not in their own name, to use with their financial accounts.
If my known cell phone number gets swapped, they don't have access to anything except my closed Twitter account.
You still have an issue if one of your financial institutions have a data breach or the number gets reported to credit bureaus. So you can still be connected to the number you're using.
That's where a service that can lock down your number like Efani can be helpful.
