Biggest reason these businesses are closing is the rent or mortgage is taking most of their profits. A society without mortgages is the solution. If every business owns their own building then they could easily have bigger profit margins and not worry too much. 
The banks let people borrow money. Money is that from people's accounts. If banks didn't let anyone borrow money then real estate would be dirt cheap. Most people would just need to save for a while and purchase the building. 
Banks borrowing have created this mess. 
Bitcoin will take power from banks and borrowing will become a thing of the past. 
Until then we will continue to see small business decline and go bankrupt.
