I agree that his doctor might share some of the blame, I don't know how much information about my sister's situation was shared with the BIL's doctor. 

Certainly my taking the vaccine is also in my best interest as well as the two survivors of cancer I live with. 

I think my point was that even if they could tell me with reasonable accuracy that Covid wasn't a serious threat to my health, I'd still get the vaccines because of the danger to the other two people who share my  home.
