 US drug regulators have rejected ecstasy as a treatment option for mental health conditions. The decision was made by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which cited concerns over the drug's potential risks, including addiction and overdose. While some advocates had suggested that MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy, could be used to help patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health conditions, the FDA has concluded that its benefits do not outweigh its risks.
