China-born π€ scientist π π Chen π Zhijian wins π βAmericaβs π Nobelβ π for medical research π ========== Chen Zhijian, a π π China-born scientist, π― π wins π the 2024 Albert Lasker Award π₯ for basic π€ medical π― research for π his discovery of the π₯ enzyme cGAS, which π plays π a crucial π― π€ role in π₯ π― π― the immune π response to π₯ pathogens. π He π€ is π the π sixth π scientist of Chinese origin π to receive this π award π― and π π€ π the second in the basic research category since 1962. Chen, 58, π€ was π π born in Fujian π province, π graduated π from Fujian π― Normal π University in 1985, and earned π― a π PhD from the State University of New York π at Buffalo π in π 1991.
