Outside of Canada was no problem at all since where I was everyone used data based apps to send text and make calls even regular businesses. 

When I came back it started to become a problem quickly. I lasted a month and was using my wife’s phone to call and receive call backs from businesses. Some services still required a phone number to receive text messages that won’t work with 1 time sms services. 

Though if you were to reduce some of those types of calls then it should work.
