The establishments inability to mea culpa (or better yet, avoid embarassment in the first place) has accumulated a critical mass of past mistakes.  They'll take any opportunity to erase that past at this point.

Erasing the past imposes a cost in physics; the physical default is for the past to feed into the present for free.  They don't think that cost applies in their online virtual bubble, or at best they underestimate it.  It's one of a few major fallacies they professionally practice to the detriment of a thriving civilization.

I hope the internet archive finds a way to persist!
