Small blocks make Bitcoin more decentralized and secure. Easier to run a node and easier to use with more trust in the network. 

More trust means more adoption. It's simple. 

Lightning is a great L2 and Bolt 12 makes it more private. I'm sure there will be even better solutions in the future.
