One of the real costs of privacy is convenience. It's not easy to give up the UI/UX of Google and Apple products for hardwares and softwares like @Start9, @GrapheneOS and Linux (all three which are great). Once you take the bold and liberating step, the feeling is kind of the same as having a kid. You won't really know how awesome it is until you do it.
I haven't used Windows in about 4 years, but my wife needed some computer help one day. I was like, "How the hell do you get any work done with all these pop up ads?"
On an adjascent note, what I appreciate is the gradations. SimpleX is more ideal than Signal, but Signal is better than standard SMS. And when you help onboard people to some of the *easier* options, or the options that are still slick like Google with marginal privacy improvements, people are more likely to move toward more ideal options in time. That first step is usually the most challenging.

Thanks for confirming that I'm on the right track 🙏 🧡
Is there somewhere a list of Nostr apps on @GrapheneOS?
I know the day is coming and I’m slowly preparing for it, but it’s the tight integration of the Apple ecosystem that I’m fairly sure I’m going to miss the most. Watching a movie with wife when kids are asleep and being able to easily connect both our AirPods to AppleTV so we don’t wake them, for example.
I know, those great conveniences is how they get you to stay. One step at a time my friend. My first suggestion is to start with you own server. You can connect from your apple devices. I never used iPhones so it was easier. Suggested journey: 1. Get you own @Start9 server. Happy to share more insights if you want to DM me. I also have a discount code. 2. With deeper understanding and hands on experience with self-sovereignty get rid of the iPhone, but a Pixel and flash @GrapheneOS 3. Get rid of the Mac and buy a new laptop either with Linux already installed or flash it. I also know there is a Linux distro available for Mac. But I just shy away from their hardware.
I have the home server already, running Umbrel because (annoyingly) I couldn’t get Start 9 to recognise second HDD. Have explored GrapheneOS also. It’s on the to-do list next year. Have been hoping someone like Umbrel or Start9 partners with GrapheneOS or does something similar.
What I like about @Start9 in comparison to Umbrel is the amazing support team that they have on Telegram. I honestly have not experienced better tech support from any other company. Their response time is very fast and that helped me a lot as I went down the self-sovereignty rabbit hole, coming from a non-technical background. I believe support for second HDD is in the timeline, but can't confirm 100%. Start9 + Graphene would be a match made in heaven.

It only feels like it is more annoying because you don't know your way around yet. Unless you need some specialist software like certain #hamradio cps everything you need is a click away and none of the annoyances. Once you learn your way around it is far nicer. Kinda line switching from xitter to nostr.
Anyone have any luck using #nextcloud instead of google drive for pictures and videos?
Yes. Nextcloud comes with it's own set of apps you can download. Use the one called Memories. It creates the timeline of all your pictures, you can create albums, etc. I've been using it for over a year, it works great and very happy to not have anything on Google Drive. Longer videos might have to be uploaded when you have LAN access though.
Ok thank you. You mentioning LAN pointed me into the right direction.
