I don't know how any of us did what we did when we were young.  It wasn't healthy. We did what we had been told we had to do.

I remember a story about a young mother who worked 16+ hours a day while her children were being raised by others.  Their entire lives. She maybe saw them two hours a week. For 18 years.

She thought she was a great mother.

Her sons did not think she was a mother.  Just a roof and clothing provider. Other people raised them, cooked for them, taught them.
