Ukraine's military has been targeting Khalino Air Base, located just 50 miles from the front line of Ukraine's surprise invasion of Russia. The base is home to Russian air force fighter-bombers capable of carrying KAB glide bombs. Ukraine has attacked the base multiple times since February 2022, including a drone raid in December that triggered a fire at the fuel depot and another attack involving cardboard attack drones.

The Ukrainian military has also used Neptune cruise missiles to strike Khalino's ammunition depot, potentially destroying stored KABs. The air base is within range of Ukraine's deep-strike weapons, including ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as explosive drones. Russia has responded with KAB bombardments along the 700-mile front line.
