I have a lot of people that follow me. I have plenty of pain points, just like you do. Nostr has issues for everyone. What do you think I am not understanding or missing? I
You're one of the only ones who has a clue. 😂
it's also interesting that it prompted a response
I strive to be a voice for the plebs that cannot be heard and try to make them heard 🫂
i am here to make people see into the darkness and realise the light that they didn't see

so i also respond for similar but different reasons

i'm not a big account, i actively offend my followers because i don't care about their fawning i'm here for the advancement of collective understanding
The new thing is asking why it matters how many followers you have.

It's like...
Go to the trendlists.
Go to the wikis.
Go to the git clients.
Go to the article readers.
Go to the search fields.
Go to...

Whose stuff do you see, everywhere?
You see my stuff, right?
Why do you think you see it?
Thank you for playing.
the new thing is being provocative

turns out that saying no and disagreeing is the new agreeing and saying yes
tension = retention... and the algo gets the bad rep, right?
idk but it's a new kind of warfare
Anything novel is provocative and upsetting to someone (usually most people, as humans eschew change).

Sometimes I formulate things mildly, sometimes I agitate, but it makes no tangible difference. People who are ready for a message accept it regardless off the tone, and people who aren't, don't.
Yes, I've been consciously testing that. 😂
Thank you 🫂😂 I try to make it my mission to understand all of the pain points that people have so that we can improve and grow Nostr.
 But generally
1) Why npubs boost their own notes, including replies.
2) Why npubs care about follower count.
3) The importance of seemingly pointless rituals, like GM notes or hellthreads.
4) How trendlists work.
5) Dealing with harrassment.
6) Trying to start off a new npub, when you don't know anyone here and have a WoT score of 0.
7) How quickly new npubs become discouraged by negative feedback.
8) The importance of relay management.
Fire list. I'll start adding these to my how do Nostr notes.
Nostr has many pain points that are improving as time moves forward. Until these are all tackled, I feel it's best to look at this list below, ask questions, and use the discussions to try to improve your experience.
nostr:nevent1qqs9kxy6c0rgpexye7t4y27cl4a57y76ugt759qsns7ngd6ztvmy27qpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsygxavex4usqkgvage45lqpdwzjqgqs630zd4nhj67p38dhn9vv7nrypsgqqqqqqs8rt8p6
 No pain, no gain! 😂

But seriously. It is the hardest to break out from mediocre shit. Pain is a huge motivator in my opinion. Pain induces growth.

If it is okay, it creates less change.

So embrace pain!

GN!

As someone who has watched UI’s become less intuitive and more sneaky to push fat fingered people to click nefarious things. Nostr is not that. However I wish there was a simple F.A.Q. Within the UI of the clients. They may be there but they are buried. THIS could be on boarding GOLD.
Yes! We need more helpful documentation and tutorials. Nostr is very different. People that treat it like a traditional social platform will have less success here.
There are many creators of excellent “onboarding content” that have zero dev skills for building websites or clients.

“Social Onboarding” will provide a platform for “non techie” creators to use their OWN content (in customizable invites and wizards) to onboard new people to their OWN corner of the Nostr network.

“here’s how to do this and do that and meet these peeps and join these groups” … with a single QR scan.

It’s happening.
I believe your app can accomplish this. Keep hacking away and keep building. Work hard!
6 is the problem. It's hard to get started on nostr if you dont know anyone.
Yes... 6 & 7 sort of tie together. No feedback is negative feedback when you're trying to make something happen. A lot of people show up not understanding the need to engage in order to really be seen. They just post notes & eventually give up. It doesn't help that "engagement" is a confusing set of ethics around here... I've grown to appreciate it, but if someone new doesn't understand the "societal norms", I'm sure that leads to a lot of misunderstanding about how their content/notes are being recieved. 😅
And now you have a sort of 2-5 follower hurdle to being seen, because otherwise your notes are often surpressed.
How would your notes be surpressed? That makes no sense to me
Low WoT notes are often hidden.
That would depend on the client though.
And the settings. But public relays are becoming unusuable without WoT, and that will be increasingly true.
True. I wouldn't even say I use Global unless I'm looking for new Nostriches to welcome via welcome.nostr.wine. Otherwise, it's trash.
local relays is a goal for us at @Northwest Arkansas Bitcoin, and noy only for #bitcoin
There are already some country ones or language ones, but they could cover smaller regions.
Which client often hides low WoT notes?
Any with WoT filters, like Coracle or Amethyst.
The welcome wagon does a decent job of mitigating that. I think low retention comes later when everyone goes back to their normal business.
The welcome wagon is mostly a myth and it's now fallen out of favor because LightX was pretending to be TikTok girls and collecting sats.

When I arrived here, nobody noticed me and I had to tag people I knew from X, and reply to threads, to get the ball rolling. I think that's much more typical, and probably harder now because of WoT, since so many people won't see what you write.
People see 4 people arrive and get a warm welcome and don't even notice that another 4k arrived to stubborn silence.

Primal actually was the first client that made it easy to find people, without wading through porn and Nazis on global, through their lists.
I wonder if the welcome wine relay catches new npubs from primal? I've noticed there's generally quite a break between activity from primal & the other clients I use, but I'm not savvy enough to know why.
It's also just a time-zone thing. If you're onboarding from Europe, in the early morning, then good luck with that. 😂
#slowstr definitely takes its toll 😂 I'm usually in bed hours ago
Actually sort of painful hearing about the Welcome Wagon because it's like, I arrived and nobody cared. 😭 Other women showed up, said "Hi!" and had more followers and sats on the first day than I had after months. And they've since posted like three times because that level of attention quickly peters off and then they get bored.

I busted my ass and worked hard for every follower and took a lot of crap doing so, and that's probably why I'm still here.

I built this.
Proof of Work at it's finest 🥹 But also this highlights ways that developers can improve their clients to make everyone's experience better. We are early so that others in the future can have better experiences than we did.

Yeah, I have more focus on newbies than most because I know how hard this is. Most npubs that had it this hard probably left.
It's pretty cool how there's a whole bunch of people who love #thenostr enough to welcome strangers with open arms now, regardless of who they are or where they're coming from. I didn't have a huge welcome either but it was pretty early on. Zaps weren't thing yet & I had no clue how small the userbase was 😅
Yeah, but you also have to remember the sheer numbers we're dealing with, now. It simply won't be possible to chat with each one arriving.
Especially, as they sometimes come in big waves. I arrived at the same time as the e-girls and some guys thought I was one. 🙄

It was a big wave.
This gets back to the whole be your own algorithm argument. Maybe we need this to be emphasized during onboarding?
still feeling my way...t-y again D
It seems like a difficult thing to convey compactly, but might help people to understand.
If we keep preaching it enough, eventually people will get it and understand. Or at least that is my hope 🥹
#adoptanewb ...that's my tactic... I pick one & try to answer all their questions, engage with their stuff, etc. It's probably weird to some but it's worked out with a few 😂
Every new hatchling needs an adult Nostrich to show them the way 🥹

asked & answered keeps me coming back...t-y & insights
😂 Many hands make for light work, or something like that
going down the code hole.....geeze! lfc!
 MIX IPaddresses @ meetups!
User discovery is hard and lacking. We can help here by boosting notes from new Nostriches.
 GN! PV! 🤙
 WoT score?
 Web of Trust
Is that a figure of speech or there's an actual score?
Coracle show this (it's playing up a bit atm tho lol)
@Dawn things to consider idk if they are entirely applicable to what you are working on tho 💜
Not really... I'm just making a guide on how to use amethyst. If it's not a total flop, maybe I'll try some other guides too but that is yet to be seen
Make sure you put it in the wiki!
Wiki? Do I post to that??
It's a specific kind of article, so no.
For research papers? For developer? What kind?
I mean "kind" literally. As in, "kind" of article event. It has a different identifying number embedded in the underlying json file.
 Pfft! Lol, gotcha!
 What’s point 7 about?
How some bigger, older npubs attack newer, smaller npubs, and sic their cronies on them.
Damn, I need to pay more attention, I have no idea this is a thing
 I call them pile-on mobs.
it's a property of the pubsub social architecture
Sadly, a lot of people like to just support the OP and are afraid to be an individual.
😂 Well, there's a pile-on under way on me, so yay.
This tactic seems to occur on every social network that supports quote posting.
 Rage-quoting?
Or just call it "dunking" / sending in your mooks.

If you haven't read it before, I highly recommend this essay:

 Very interesting observation
OMG, really??? I was not aware
what do you mean relay management 👀
