There are a few nibs that make that easier. Certain nib grinds, flex nibs some softer gold nib etc.
Is the nib the pointy end bit?

Because what I hated was it felt like I was scratching and digging into the paper.

What fixes that?

(I'm imagining your answer is going to be "skills! Get good boy!" And that's why I hated it 🤣🤣 it felt like you were supposed to play with the pressure and how hard you were doing it for different lines. But it also felt like all I was doing was making holes and grooves in the paper and getting ink on my desk 🤷🏽)
Yes, the nib is the pointy end!

There are many different types of nibs that would suit you better than what you were likely using.

My guess is it was an extra fine or fine point. They can be scratchy, depending on the grind and the paper you were using.

It sounds to me like you would be better suited to a medium or broad nib, again, depending on the paper. You want to be starting with good paper. 80gsm or higher is where I would suggest. You can actually find printer paper in that range just as an example.

If you're looking for more line variation then a softer nib like a gold nib or what is called a "flex nib" can be used. You won't get a huge variation as you still shouldn't be pressing super hard on any nib, but it's more than a regular grind will do.

Then you get into specialty grinds, but that's more advanced stuff I haven't gotten into just yet.

 This is ridiculously interesting.

Do you have tutorials?

If it's not you I don't want it.
I do not yet! I do have the goal to produce tutorials though! I will add this topic to my list!
And you better tag me when you do
 I will do that!!
In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
 I will!
