Am. Pit Bull Terriers actually can carry dwarfism, so a lot of dogs that are considered basset/corgi/dachshund mixes could actually be pit bulls with dwarfism, especially since it is much more common. 

While pit bulls have short single coat, when a short coat is mixed with a long coat there's often the result of a wirey type of coat. The result is not unique to American Pit Bull Terriers (just the cattle dog and golden retriever mix would likely result in a similar hair coat).
