Alpacas have long and very strong necks. Combined with a long body and 4 strong legs they have a lot of leverage over the two legged handlers. Once their head and neck are on the ground along with the handler the handler now can use height (length) and weight as leverage, allowing another handler to halter and attache a lead. 

When there is no other handler, resolution of the situation becomes interesting.
