Did they miss local second-hand markets? This is a thing here. We use facebook marketplace or a local facebook group to trade stuff we don‘t want to throw away. 

 My understanding is that a lot of the activity on Front Porch Forum are second hand markets. Lots of places use facebook groups, but not in Vermont.
