It's the reliability and durability that gets you
I mean, they're used alllll the time in industrial settings. As long as you use a high quality SSD (which is kind of required anyway) I don't think the reliability or durability is notably worse than other consumer grade hardware.
I burned through three of them because of a bad ground or power failures.

Granted, I may be an idiot, but none of my computers failed during that time.
I recommend using the proprietary Pi cable and a UBS/Surge protector when possible

But yeah, three failures is no good. Just out of curiosity, did you check if the SD card had failed?
100% use only the RPI AC cable.

Beyond that, SD card corruption was my biggest problem.

I repurposed my Pi 4 as a general purpose Ubuntu box and flashed the firmware to boot directly from SSD. Smooth sailing ever since.
Ah yeaaa. They are very particular about power sources. Or probably just as particular as any computer, but can be powered by any crappy USB brick so they have to contend with shittier supplies more often.
Can i suck your toes and tell you my favorite Parts about you and our inside jokes, and how we hold hands underneath the bed
The biggest problem with a Pi is that the SD cards which store the OS don’t seem to be well suited for so much constant reading and writing. My Pi 4 has been a tank, but I’ve burnt through 3 SD cards in two years and every time they crap out I have to spend at least an hour testing everything.
Put the OS on the SSD then toss the SD card in the trash 😁
I’m too stupid to do this with Umbrel unfortunately 🤣 or rather, they make it so damn easy to use an SD card and the alternative method of installation is a pain
Haha fair enough. I think you can just flash the same image to the SSD as if it was an SD card, but haven't tried personally
 Timely!
