But moved it to a paid hosted version to avoid the problem that primal is also having.  

I run their paid cloud node for nostr:npub19hg5pj5qmd3teumh6ld7drfz49d65sw3n3d5jud8sgz27avkq5dqm7yv9p services and it’s pretty good.  

But can also appreciate looking for a free service.  

Are you running your own node like nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll ? As that can also be an option.
