You also don't have to be constrained by your domain name registrar. You can also purchase web hosting (I'm a fan of Dreamhost) and you cna purchase email hosting (I use Fastmail) independently from your registrar. That let's you not have all your eggs in one basket, and have providers that focus on specific products / functionality. Setup is a bit trickier, but the are typically great guides available from those providers. Just another idea...
