 I've heard of Nettles as a cure for arthritus and anemia but never hayfever, I'm going to have to check my herbals now and see what I can find there.

 There are entries for Nettle + Elderflower infusions (tea) once a day during the months running up to hayfever season.

Seen no evidence of the stinging method but that's not an attempted to discredit it, interesting.
