Round here they've done a lot 'patching' with tarmac... which is a temporary 'solution' that when it fails (after the first winter, it often seems), then makes the problem worse... the only viable long-term solution is whole road (proper) resurfacing, which also due to the farm traffic round here needs to be more than the superficial reciting sometime passed off as resurfacing!
