GM my friends! Anyone know of any kids phone/OS that is open source, privacy/security intentional, with good parental controls on it?? Similar to a Bark or Gabb phone? But not running a bunch of kids data through a centralized company?!? Just looking for talk and text when our kid isn’t with family. But want to be able to keep “non-contacts” from calling/texting in. #asknostr @Seth For Privacy @ODELL @NVK
Currently I just set up an old Pixel 3a with a prepaid sim, running #CalyxOS, setup with an owner profile and a Kids profile, removed/disabled some apps (web browser, camera, f-droid, etc), and installed SpamBlocker (open source app) to filter notifications from “non-contact” numbers. With this app the calls/texts still come through and show, but the notifications are blocked. It’s a kind of hacked together solution that seems like it will work for now, but as the kids get older it would be good to have more secure options and be able to toggle feature on and off as needed. Thanks Peeps!
Perhaps a data-only sim with SimpleX?
Yea, I was going down that path but was having issues with the data only eSIM on the phone I had. Not sure if it was a phone issue, calyxOS issue, or other. Might have to keep going down that rabbit hole. Thanks!!
