China-born π scientist π€ Chen Zhijian wins βAmericaβs Nobelβ π π for medical research π π ========== Chen Zhijian, π a China-born scientist, wins the 2024 Albert π Lasker π Award π for basic π medical research for his π discovery π of π€ the enzyme cGAS, which π€ plays π₯ a crucial role in the immune response π to pathogens. π He π€ is the sixth scientist π π π€ of Chinese π― origin to π€ receive this π award and π π π the second π€ in the basic research category since 1962. Chen, π 58, was born π in Fujian π― province, graduated from Fujian Normal π University in π 1985, and earned a π PhD from π the State University π― of New York at Buffalo in 1991.
