This should settle it: the U.S. was a republic that morphed over time to become a democratic republic. https://medium.com/democracys-sisyphus/is-the-united-states-a-democracy-or-a-republic-ff6691242d11 nostr:nevent1qqszwd266f7d2epzcnm7ky57w4fjgjj36kle9zlq55cugl2gpgml6qspzfmhxue69uhkummnw3eryvfwvdhk6tczyrdvucasp3pwdcqh6qxary9fx2pcvqp07ktmss0ttmu3me83e6zfzqcyqqqqqqgw7lrzr
By Jonathan Madison. I wonder if he's related to THE James Madison?
But let's not get too excited over the U.S. government being a democratic or representative republic. Is the U.S. government REALLY representative of the people? There are like 750,000 constituents to each representative. This is a far cry from the 1:30,000 ratio that was intended. You don't personally know the representative (in most cases) nor do they know you. They actually represent those that fund their reelection and personal perks, i.e., corporations.
When you look at how things actually work in the US rather than the forms that are still claimed, I'd argue we are no longer a republic, a democratic republic, or a democracy. We are a tyrannical oligarchy. The Democrats, that verbally hold democracy so high, are the least democratic of them all. They actively try to destroy every vestige of democracy or a democratic republic. They don't want the people choosing anything and they abhor the limitations put on them by the Constitution that defines the Republic. The Republicans are also terrible, but they tend to look quite good in comparison in the same way poop looks good compared to diarrhea. (Sorry for the grossness)
