A tangent to what you are talking about… All these kids attending public schools are trapped in the Google ecosystem from the moment they start kindergarten. I don’t think administrators, school boards, and parents understand the implications. I wonder if P2P can succeed at scale without some kind of awakening.
The push back I’ve received for not allowing “free” Google stuff into our school is amazing. Apple and Microsoft are far from perfect either, but the kids don’t leave us trapped in their Google accounts at least (the Apple and Microsoft accounts are deleted when they leave us). Everyone just sees cheap Chromebooks as a way to save money.
That is definitely a big problem.
