 How is this argued in full context? Spending = acquiring more assets? 
 Because of inflation things will keep getting expenses. If you save now and try to spend later, you are paying more unless you beat inflation. 

In the current system, if you HAD to hold fiat, it is better to spend now than later.

 Sure, that is what I thought. You are basically forced to spend and acquire something now (whether you need it or no), because later on you will get less for the same amount of funds. 

It is a reasonable thing to say. I guess the biggest issue here is that you are forced to buy things now, regardless you need them or not, which result in this weird/unecessary investment world we have today. 
 You don't like it but they love it.
