I’ve had a mild hankering for sushi for a few weeks, so I took a chance and ducked out of Dog’s swimming lesson this afternoon to pick up a take away from the sushi place over the road. 

Salmon oyako don, squid sashimi (I was a bit dubious about the strawberry, but it worked well), tobico gunkan and pickle maki. 

All made to order (I’d phoned up earlier), and really quite good. Much better than I was expecting from this small town. 

I’m not sure if it was what I ordered or what (they have some weird trendy stuff, eg “Salmon, cream cheese & mango rolled in sea weed, topped with salmon, tuna avocado & crispy fried onion”), but they definitely had me clocked as “knows about sushi” even before we started comparing Japanese and UK corner shop sushi and laughing about people trying to use chopsticks.
